Porcelain Veneers

Porcelain Veneers

Veneers are very thin pieces of durable, tooth shaped porcelain that are custom made (for shape andcolor) by a professional dental laboratory. They are bonded onto the front of the teeth to create a beautiful and natural looking smile.

Veneers can completely reshape your teeth and smile. They can often be alternatives to crowns and the ideal solution to many dental conditions.

As with most dental restorations, veneers are not permanent and may someday need replacement.   They are very durable and if well cared for will last many years, giving you a beautiful long lasting smile.

Reasons for porcelain veneers:

  • Cosmetically, to create a uniform, white, beautiful smile
  • Straighten the appearance of crooked teeth
  • Severely discolored or stained teeth
  • Teeth that are too small or large
  • Unwanted or uneven spaces
  • Worn or chipped teeth

What does getting porcelain veneers involve?

Once you have decided to consider porcelain veneers,

First, you would schedule a free 15-minute screening consultation with Dr. Poer.  This will help assure that veneers are right for you.

The process begins next, when we take impressions of your teeth.  This allows Dr. Poer to have study models and create a custom wax up of your new teeth.

Later, a 15-30 minute final consultation is scheduled with Dr. Poer to review the wax up and insure your expectations are being met with porcelain veneers.

After your consultations with Dr. Poer, getting veneers usually requires two visits to complete the treatment. During the first visit, the existing teeth are prepared by lightly reducing and shaping the surface to allow for the thickness of the veneer. A second impression or mold of the teeth is taken and a shade (color) will also be chosen by you and Dr. Poer.

During the second visit, approximately two week later, the teeth will be cleansed with special liquids to achieve a durable bond. Bonding cement is then applied between the tooth and veneer and a special UV light beam is used to harden and set the bond.

With proper care of you new veneers including daily brushing, flossing and regular dental visits, you will have many years to enjoy and show off your new smile.
